Let’s be real … most people really do go to weddings just for the cake. At least that is one of the main reasons. 😉
I, for one, always look forward to the cake and the desserts at every wedding I attend because I have a massive sweet tooth. Plus, I just love looking at how the bride and groom have designed the wedding cake & groom’s cake!
We went for a very simply chic, glamorous look for the wedding cake, and Teej decided on having shot glasses full of tiramisu (his fave!) with chocolate covered strawberries (his second fave!) as his groom’s ‘cake’.

Fun fact: The detailed fabric at the top tier of the cake was actually the cape that came with my wedding dress. I liked my dress better without the cape, however, I LOVED that beautiful fabric and did not want it to go to waste. If you have seen the back of my wedding dress, then you’ll notice that the top part of it has this same exact fabric that is placed at the top of the cake. I loved how this cake coordinated so well with my dress.
I got him GOOD!!!
… and thennn, he got me back.
“Um, did that really just happen?!?”
Let’s just all take a moment to LOL because I still look back, and I’m like … that really happened. WOW! We literally had a mini food fight right there at our wedding, ha! But hey, that’s just the way our relationship is .. full of jokes & laughs and altogether really fun! Some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten is to never take life too seriously.
We used Sandy’s Wedding Cakes in Knoxville for our main tiered cake and then Faith Baked Cakes for our groom’s ‘cake’ & desserts. All of our desserts tasted incredible! My sweet tooth was all kinds of excited that night. We did each layer a different flavor for our tiered cake – vanilla, strawberry and 2 layers of red velvet. YUM! I am literally already looking forward to our anniversary so that we can eat some of the cake that we saved! I really liked the idea of having each layer of cake be a different flavor that way our guests would have a few options to choose from.
The tiramisu shots and chocolate covered strawberries from Faith Baked Cakes were ahhh-mazing. I could have eaten about 50 of those shots but then my wedding dress probably would have snapped, lol! Those and the strawberries were definitely a crowd favorite!
I do look forward to seeing the groom’s cake at weddings because it shows off the groom’s personality and his hobbies or interests, however, if your groom is anything like mine, he really likes food and isn’t a huge ‘sweets’ person. If this is the case, you can always opt for something besides cake for your groom’s dessert choice. It could be his grandmother’s famous pie recipe, a fondue station, or even Krispy Kreme donuts! Remember, it’s YOUR all’s special day, so do whatever your heart desires. 🙂
Thanks so much for stopping by today! I have a HUGE, exciting announcement coming to the blog tomorrow (& I may even post a sneak peek tonight on my Instagram, so follow along there!). Stay tuned, ladies!! I can’t wait to share!
